Life Skills Education for Early Married Girls

In the present context, it is crucial to cultivate essential life skills among the youth. The World Health Organization has defined life skills as, “the abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life”. Life skills are abilities and competencies that empower young people to act positively in various spheres of life, enabling the young individuals to be more productive and happy while they face the harsh realities of life. This shows that life skills are vital, especially for the vulnerable and deprived sections of the society.

Child Marriage deprives the adolescent girls from various opportunities and these married girls constitute a section of the society which has never received the required attention. IMAGE NEXT believes in providing equal opportunities to the Early married girls and emphasises on ensuring a better life for them. As a part of the project, Fun learning modules on essential life skills have been designed so that there is holistic development of the Early Married Girls. Implementing a curriculum on life skills will have innumerable benefits for the girls as it will enable them to be more aware, act rationally and wisely in various situations. These modules will also teach them aspects of life that are not covered in formal education. The girls will learn various skills, understand the social situation they are placed in and attempt to step out of the boundaries that restrict them from achieving their full potential. IMAGE NEXT envisions a better future for the early married girls by imparting life skills education, preparing them for life and promoting their well-being.
