Leadership development and Capacity Building Training for Movement Leaders

IMAGE Next is all about the “Nurturing movement of Girls and Young  Women As Agents of Change to Ascertain their Rights”.

Leadership development and Capacity Building of Movement Leaders through the different training programmes are an integral part of the project to ensure the project goal.

To spearhead the movement, 122 girls and young women have been shortlisted and identified as movement leaders in the block as well as district level. They represent 5 Regional Movement Units in the districts of Bidar, Bagalkot, Belgaum, Chamrajnagar and Chikkaballapura. They are being engaged in different activities of the project and are also mentored to spearhead the movement in their respective places as change agents to ascertain the rights of Early Married Girls.

it is difficult to conduct the training face to face in one place because of the Corona pandemic. To ensure social distancing, the project has initiated virtual training through zoom meetings to build the capacity of Movement leaders on Movement Functioning, Leadership Development and Communications. Child Rights Trust (CRT), Bengaluru hosts these training sessions once a week. At present, a total of 5 sessions are planned across different topics. The sessions are being facilitated by Mr Vasudeva Sharma, the Managing director of CRT  along with the CRT Team. 15 selected Movement leaders from 15 districts across Karnataka are actively participating in these training and are equipping themselves to spearhead the movement.

The feedback from the Movement Leaders is quite encouraging.

“This training helped us understand the concept of change and change agents in the movement against child marriage.”

“The sessions were very useful for us to understand the need for change in terms of child marriages in villages.”
